Mayor Cllr Diane Green enjoyed a packed diary this month! Cllr Green engaged in a number of festive activities across the community in the lead up to Christmas, sharing in the joy of the season with schoolchildren and residents at home, as well as out and about in town!
Christmas Concert, December 6th, St. Michael’s Church.
Cllr Green provided opening remarks at the Christmas concert, recalling cherished Christmas traditions in Abergele, and sparking shared childhood memories for many of those who attended.
Compere Dilwyn Morgan, led the congregation through the evening with good cheer and humour, with everyone safe and warm in St. Michael’s church, even as the winds of storm Darragh picked up outside.
Beulah Brass and Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir provided festive entertainment for the attendees, including a light-hearted rendition of ‘Deck the Halls’ that saw audience members getting in some pre-holiday exercise, standing in turns to lead the chorus!
School choirs from Ysgol Sant Elfod, Ysgol Glan Morfa, and Ysgol St. George helped usher in the Christmas spirit, with their beautiful carol singing – it was a treat to hear the children singing together so sweetly, and it was clear that they had worked very hard at rehearsals!
With almost 300 people in attendance, it was certainly a full house, with over £900 in donations generously given to the Mayor’s chosen charity, The British Heart Foundation.
Christmas Card Competition
This year, the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Card Competition saw hundreds of fantastic entries come in from the children of Ysgol Sant Elfod, Ysgol Glan Morfa, and Ysgol St. George.
The Town Council Chambers looked like Santa’s grotto with all the cards laid out for Town Councillors to view, and the Mayor certainly had a challenging task in choosing the winners!
The Mayor enjoyed visiting each school to see all the children and announce the winners – many thanks to all the children for your beautiful cards, and congratulations to overall winner Eira, from Ysgol Glan Morfa!

Nursing and Residential Care Homes Visits
Mayor Cllr Green went on a number of outings this week, to Abbeyfield, Coed Mor, Southern House, Tannery Court, Hafod y Parc, and Dol Awel Residential Home!
Cllr Green enjoyed spending time with residents, sharing memories and spending time together during the festive Christmas season.
Incredible Edible Abergele Pensarn, December 9th
Mayor Cllr Green attended the unveiling of Incredible Edible Abergele Pensarn‘s new town trail information board, posted just outside the library. This marked the soft-opening of the group’s new town trail, which will open in the spring, and will be an enjoyable activity for residents and tourists, promoting wellbeing. The trail will include an array of flowers and plants, and include some edible herbs and plants too!
Cartrefi Conwy Community Space, December 12th
Cartrefi Conwy officially opened the new community Space this week. Mayor Cllr Diane Green opened the event with words of thanks to all those involved in creating a space for friendship, wellbeing, and relaxation, right here in town.
In the spirit of the season, and in keeping with the spirit of community and friendship, everyone gathered to sing Christmas carols, enjoy some festive cheer, and take turns on the friendship bench.
Shop Christmas Window Competition, December 13th
Mayor Cllr Green took a walk through town on Friday, to take in the festive shop windows!
It is wonderful to see so many of our dedicated local businesses decked out for the season, bringing festive cheer to shoppers and a sprinkle of Christmas magic to our town.
